Day 5: About a estimated 2 1/2 mile walk to the underground transportation seemed forever when rolling suitcases down the street. Especially, when you have a 50 pound suitcase in your hands. I guess the "pack light" message from Stew at the meetings prior, did not quite set in. I certainly planned on working on my blog on the Eurostar but was not feeling to good. I did get a little motion sickness on the train and that was even after I took Dramamine. After, I got sick I decided to sleep the rest of the train ride. We soon arrived to meet our tour guide Monsieur Jan at Paris Gare du Nord train station. My throat was still feeling a little soar and scratchy. I was not really feeling like eating anything but ice cream. So, I did the least expected and had my first Paris (Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream). Before, I could enjoy some ice cream, I had to get my money exchanged. $100 US dollars = 65 Euros back. =[ I lost $35 Us dollars, it is hard coping with the currency exchanges. 7.40 Euros later, I was enjoying my Framboise Ice Cream. It was a delicious Raspberry Ice Cream and I really did enjoy it. The tour guide in Paris was really nice and we were able to see all the beautiful places that you only see in movies. Untitled from BrittanyCervantes on Vimeo. We passed places like the Joan of arc statue, Academia de Nationale de Musique (The National Academy of Music), Dior, and of course the Eiffel Tower. As we rounded the road it was obvious that we were approaching with the mass amount of screaming girls. Honestly, inside I was screaming but a tune of " I cannot believe that I am here." It really hit me that I was actually in Paris when the tour bus approached it and we got out to take pictures. Now, that I look back it seems that the place was unreal and the background scene was painted behind me. We had to meet at the Louvre museam at 3pm to make our tour deadline. The Louvre is the whole surrounding part and people mistake the Pyramid for just being it. At this point I was having trouble breathing and I think the infection or virus had spread to my chest. Although, I could not let that stop me because everything was so beautiful. I kept drinking my water and would rest at any stop that I could. I think because we were right next to the Pyramid inside the museum that it was the reason that I did not feel well. It was generating a lot of heat and France was already at least 90 degrees when we arrived. I guess it felt a little bit like home because of the wonderful heat in summer in the Inland Empire. I love the summer weather but it is hard when your sick. I cannot help but push my self further and explore this beautiful museum. Shortly, after arriving to the OPPS Hostel in Paris; a group of us went out to eat dinner at a lovely open dining area. The waiter addressed us in French as we entered the restaurant. It took him a moment and then he changed to English, "Table for eight?" Our faces changed from confusion to relieved. It was nice time to sit down with a group of friends and eat a really great meal. We had a bit of a language barrier problem with the waitress but pointing to the menu helped. She seemed to like us for trying to pronounce the names and using "Merci" to thank her. I decided to have a little glass of Red wine and it was sweet. I do not typically like wine but here it is like a delicacy. Plus, with pasta it seemed like a bonus to a long day. The only complaint I had so far was the charging for use of public bathroom facilities. This was a lovely dinner though and I was very happy to eat some good penne pasta. After dinner we walked to a little Paris alley with cobblestone road. It was wonderful with all the different sounds and elements around me. I was definitely taking it all in and wishing I would never leave. Of course, the next stop was to get a crepe. It would not be any crepe though, it was a banana with nutella crepe. YUM! It was absolutely-positively delicious. This concluded this day. =]
