Day 6: A captivating beginning started with an early morning walk in the rain to Notre Dame Cathedral. It was a beautiful light rainfall and it was in Paris (what more could you ask for?), I loved it. Growing up my dad always told me about the cathedral and when I left how extravagant it would be. He was definitely right and I am so blessed. The interesting thing for me was going into a Catholic service and seeing it become a tourist attraction. It was kind of weird to walk in and see people taking pictures. They walked around and shot pictures of sculptures (no flash of course), but it was beautiful. The pews to the ceilings were noticeably well done and was clear that there was a lot of effort into the architecture. The outside of the cathedral had gorgeous sculptures of angels and more. We continued on our path to another great cathedral called "Saint Chapelle." This cathedral was even more amazing to me because of the beautiful stained glass windows throughout. It was a small little cathedral but absolutely a wonderful one. It was small, quaint and had a peaceful feeling about it. Although, I still loved the architecture of the Notre Dame Cathedral but this had so much more detail. Saint Chapelle took 5 years to build as where Notre Dame took about 200 years to be collectively finished. It shows how much work goes into the Cathedrals when you give a timeline. This place was a jaw dropping moment for me when we approached the Palace of Versailles. Can you believe that this gate is made out of real gold? I know, I could not believe this either. The palace had beautiful rooms throughout with paintings, and gold on the walls. The room that interest me the most was the birthing room (I think that's what it was called." Basically, a women of the palace would give birth for everyone to give,"congratulations" and welcoming to the new baby. I could not imagine being in pain and having everyone watch as I deliver a newborn. It was quite interesting and alarming when I heard our tour guide Monsieur Jan say this. I definitely had fun visiting this place and admiring all the gold on the walls but I do not think that I would want to be royalty. I guess it would be too much in the public eye. Get Lost in ParisLiterally, I got lost in Paris with a group of people and it was really an adventure. The 22 of us students and Stew were on the eurostar headed back to our hostel. We had just left the Palace of Versailles and boarded the eurail. It was interesting when I heard this magnificent music from below. The French musicians were playing on an acordian and it was clearly the music of France. A ton of us took a quick nap and were awaken suddenly to get off at our stop but apparently we were not alerted early enough because the doors (no joke) will close on you. So, instead of being smushed by the doors then we stayed on board and were left to figure out our own way back. We were pretty much all cranky and hungry at this time. So to say the least, we were not the nicest at first. Except there were two people in the group that were pretty good with figuring out the map. Morris and Denise pretty much found our safe haven at Opps hostel. When we walked in it was fun to say "Opps." A not so decadent feastAfter a nap and the recovery from getting lost (it's not as dramatic as I make it), I went out to eat with a group of girls. We went to eat at this pizza restuarant and it was quite interesting. Well, that is putting it nice because my Ham/Pineapple pizza had an over easy egg upon it. Instead, of complaining I tried eating it but it was hardly tolerable. One expensive dinner for a waste of money. Although, in the end we got to keep the roses that were left for each of us on the table. I thought at first that we would have to pay for them but the waiter came after us. He did a motion to say a tear was coming down his cheek for us not taking the roses. It was funny that this would happen. Every moment in Paris has been a laughing moment and this is why it is always a good idea. I also considered getting a tattoo but that did not happen because of pricing and not wanting to do the same as others. I still have been wanting one since I turned 18 but I thought it would be awesome to say, "I got it in Paris." Maybe, next time but I may have them in the US before I ever get a chance to return to the city of Love. Recap of the Day and BeautyFrance Cathedrals from BrittanyCervantes on Vimeo.
